Despite devastating consequences of a head injury, little progress has been made in developing therapies that protect from or reverse it. We are conducting research in the lab to improve the outcome of people with a head injury.

Stem cells that live in the patient’s brain could provide a potential source of cells which could be targeted for repair. Our proposed work will allow us to understand the signals that are involved after head injury. We identified stem cells which are activated only after injury. The aim is to manipulate these cells to repair or protect the injured brain. By understanding this, we can begin to develop a strategy to target appropriate pathways that increase the potential for brain repair and quality of life for our patients.
