Investigating Meningioma Related Seizures through DNA Methylation Analysis

Prof Michael Jenkinson, University of Liverpool

Meningiomas are the most common brain tumours worldwide, with incidence increasing as the population ages. Up to 40% of patients with meningioma suffer from seizures. Seizures can be life threatening and hugely impact quality of life through restrictions on driving, work and side-effects from medications. Even when the tumour is removed through surgery, a quarter of patients will continue to suffer seizures. There is a pressing need to identify the genetic changes that may cause seizures as it may help develop new medications. To achieve this, out first step, and the aim of this research, is to analyse existing meningioma genetic data.
